A domain name is the text name corresponding to the numeric IP address of a computer on the Internet. A domain name must be unique. Internet users access your website using your domain name.

General Registration Policies

Term: Domain names may be registered for a minimum of one (1) year, and a maximum of five (5) years.

Autorenewal

Domains automatically renew at the end of their term (the expiration date). Please do not use the "www" in the name. "www" is not part of the domain name, since it is a host in the domain.

• A domain name can be up to 63 characters long excluding the 4 characters used to identify the Top Level Domain (.COM, .NET or .ORG).
• Only letters, digits, and hyphens will be accepted in a domain name. Names cannot begin or end with hyphens.

Contact information

Registrants must provide true, accurate contact information. The following contact types are required: Registrant, Administrative, Technical, Billing. As per standing policy, the contact data will displayed in the .IN WHOIS, except for the Billing contact data, which is not displayed.

Nameservers

To register a .IN domain, the registrant does not need to provide nameservers. In order to appear in the zone file and resolve on the Internet, at least one (1) valid nameserver must be associated with the domain name. The use of at least two valid nameservers is highly recommended.

• Domain name registration in India is usually completed within 24-48 hours of the receipt of payment. Once successfully registered, nobody can register your domain name, but it still takes 1-2 days for it to show up in the WHOIS database.
• Internationally, Domain name registration is done on a First-come-first-serve basis. The domain requested may be registered by some other person / organization in between the period of request for domain registration and the receipt of payment.
• ZI will not be responsible in any way for the non-availability of the domain name.

A transaction may be authorized via a pre-authorization step, where the merchant requests the issuer to reserve an amount on the cardholder's account for a specific time, followed by completion, where the merchant requests an amount blocked earlier with a pre-authorization. This transaction flow in two steps is often used in businesses such as hotels and car rental where the final amount is not known, and the pre-authorization is made based on an estimated amount. Completion may form part of a settlement process, typically performed at the end of the day when the day's completed transactions are submitted.

Authentication

EFT transactions may be accompanied by methods to authenticate the card and the card holder. The merchant may manually verify the card holder's signature, or the card holder's Personal identification number (PIN) may be sent online in an encrypted form for validation by the card issuer. Other information may be included in the transaction, some of which is not visible to the card holder (for instance magnetic stripe data), and some of which may be requested from the card holder (for instance the card holder's address or the CVV2 value printed on the card).
